Background
The Sustainable and Smart Water Life Project received support through the Global Water Partnership’s Youth for Water and Climate initiative. The project addressed farmers’ dependence on unpredictable rainfall while introducing practical approaches to water conservation and climate adaptation.
Results
The project demonstrated practical approaches to water conservation, irrigation and climate-smart agriculture. Participating farmers reported improvements in production and reductions in some production costs.
Challenges
The project experienced logistical and resource constraints during implementation.
Key activities
- Partnered with farmers who made parts of their farmland available as demonstration fields.
- Trained farmers in compost preparation and climate-smart agricultural methods.
- Demonstrated simple irrigation approaches using locally available materials.
