AfEI Joins the Ghana Climate Justice Movement

The Alliance for Environmental Intervention (AfEI) has joined civil-society organisations and other stakeholders in endorsing the formation of the Ghana Climate Justice Movement.

Established under the auspices of Greenpeace Africa, the movement brings organisations together to promote coordinated action on climate change and climate justice in Ghana. Its declaration recognises the effects of rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, extreme weather, biodiversity loss and environmentally harmful human activities on communities, livelihoods and food security.

The movement’s priorities include climate adaptation and mitigation, equitable access to resources, community participation, environmental education, research, advocacy and collaboration among civil society, government, academia, the private sector, faith-based organisations, traditional institutions and local communities. It also recognises the importance of Indigenous and local knowledge in developing sustainable responses to climate change.

By endorsing the declaration, AfEI joins a wider commitment to support inclusive climate action, share knowledge, strengthen public awareness and contribute to evidence-based advocacy. This participation aligns with AfEI’s work in environmental education, climate-resilient agriculture, community engagement and landscape restoration.

The Ghana Climate Justice Movement was formally declared on 12 July 2024. Its members committed to collaborative action, monitoring progress, and promoting transparency and accountability in their collective efforts.
