Farmer-Based Climate Adaptation Project (FCAP)

Agriculture is central to livelihoods and economic development in Ghana, but changing rainfall patterns, rising temperatures and extreme weather can make agricultural production increasingly uncertain. Many farmers depend heavily on rain-fed agriculture and have limited access to irrigation and other adaptive technologies.

AfEI developed the Farmer-Based Climate Adaptation Project as a recurring initiative for sharing practical and locally accessible adaptation methods. The initiative focuses on demonstrating how familiar agricultural practices and locally available materials can be combined to respond more effectively to specific farming conditions.

Planned learning areas

1. Farmer-managed regenerative practices that support soil quality, including mulching with household organic waste and other biomass, and intercropping.
2. Selection and use of quality seeds suited to local conditions.
3. Low-cost irrigation approaches using locally available or repurposed materials.
